How hot does a warehouse actually get?+

Mezzanines and rack-top areas in uninsulated metal-roof warehouses routinely hit 100–115°F by mid-afternoon during summer, even when the floor reads 85°F. Forklift cabs add another 5–10°F. Loading docks and break rooms near dock doors can run hotter than outdoors during peak afternoon heat.

Are HVLS fans enough?+

HVLS (high-volume, low-speed) fans are highly effective up to about a 95°F dry-bulb temperature — they increase evaporative cooling. Above 95°F, or in high-humidity environments, fans alone become inadequate and you need additional cooling (evaporative units, spot cooling, or HVAC) plus administrative controls.

Does Cal/OSHA §3396 apply to my warehouse?+

If any indoor work area exceeds 82°F, §3396 applies in California. Above 87°F (or 82°F with PPE or high radiant heat), additional engineering, administrative, and PPE controls are mandatory. The proposed federal rule extends comparable indoor coverage nationally.

What's the biggest mistake warehouse operators make?+
